Iran's folk Legend, Sima Bina
Sima Bina, singer, songwriter and painter is one of the greatest female vocalists of this century on par with the likes of Peggy Seeger. Her professional career as a singer spanning well over 50 years, started at the age of 7 in Radio Iran's Children programme, with a protest song against Corporal punishment and continued in Iran throughout her life until the advent of the 1979 Islamic revolution when solo female voice as an art form was banned. Sima Bina then left her country and resided in Germany where she has relentlessly pursued her passion and her art. Many of the folk songs and dialects in Iran have become part of Iran's national heritage solely due to Sima Bina's unbelievable perseverance and dedication. Her work, voice and image is so powerful that even the new songs performed by her are instantly categorised as part of Iran's folk tradition. This is while the female voice in Iran is banned!! Her repertoire is vast, her presence is soul filling, her passion is for the audience to feel ..
